Villa Opera is nestled on Volterra’s hilly countryside. You will need a vehicle in any case for shopping and everything else. If you are planning to arrive by public transport, you need to rent a vehicle. Getting to Volterra by public transport (air, train, bus) is not the easiest of things. A few pointers are given below.
1. BY CAR: HOW TO GET TO VILLA OPERA
If all roads lead to Rome, many reach Volterra. Volterra is placed in between the two main north-south motorway axis: the Tirrenian axis (A12/A15 – Aurelia) and the Apennine axis (A1). It’s your choice.
COMING FROM THE NORTH you have two basic options:
Arriving from the North (Brenner and regions east):
• Highway A1/E35 http://www.automap.it/autostrade/mappa.asp?tratta=A1;
• A1 take exit: Firenze Impruneta;
• Take Raccordo Firenze-Siena A1 – exit Colle di Val d’Elsa Nord;
• On the right, take SR68 to Volterra http://bit.ly/1WiLHBO;
• As you arrive in Volterra, do not enter the city, but follow SR68 as it skirts the town in direction of Cecina http://www.tuttocitta.it/mappa/volterra/sr68;
• After about 2 kilometers, there is a junction on the right with the SP16 of the Monte Volterrano. Turn right toward Pontedera and Montecatini V.C.;
• After about 1 kilometer, you will find Villa Opera on your left.
Arriving from the North-East (Gotthard, Piedmont or Liguria):
• A12/E80 resp. A15/E33 http://www.automap.it/autostrade/mappa.asp?tratta=A12#A15;
• A12 – take exit Pisa Centro;
• Take S.G.C. Fi-Pi-Li – second exit Pontedera;
• From then on, follow directions to Volterra;
• Once in Volterra, do not enter the town but keep right, skirting it until you reach SR68. Go right, direction Cecina http://www.tuttocitta.it/mappa/volterra/sr68;
• After about 2 kilometers, there is a junction on the right with the SP16 of the Monte Volterrano. Turn right towards Pontedera and Montecatini V.C.;
• After about 1 kilometer, you will find Villa Opera on your left.
COMING FROM THE SOUTH, you have two basic options:
Taking the A1/E35 from Rome:
• A1 – exit Val di Chiana http://www.automap.it/autostrade/mappa.asp?tratta=A1;
• Insert yourself into the Raccordo Siena-Bettolle;
• Just before Siena, take the Raccordo Firenze-Siena A1 towards Firenze;
• Exit at Colle di Val d’Elsa Nord;
• On the left, take SR68 to Volterra http://bit.ly/1WiLHBO;
• As you arrive in Volterra, do not enter the city, but follow SR68 as it skirts the town in direction of Cecina http://www.tuttocitta.it/mappa/volterra/sr68;
• After about 2 kilometers, there is a junction on the right with the SP16 of the Monte Volterrano. Turn right towards Pontedera and Montecatini V.C.;
• After about 1 kilometer, you will find Villa Opera on your left.
Taking the A92 from Rome (coastal highway - Aurelia):
• A92 until it connects with the SS 1 - Aurelia (at Civitavecchia);
• Continue on the SS 1;
• Exit at Cecina Centro http://bit.ly/1odveo0;
• At Cecina, take SR68 toward Volterra, follow it well after Saline di Volterra;
• As you wind your way up towards Volterra, 2 kilometers before there is a junction on the left the SP16 of the Monte Volterrano. Turn left towards Pontedera and Montecatini V.C.;
• After about 1 kilometer, you will find Villa Opera on your left.
2. BY AIR: HOW TO GET TO VILLA OPERA
You have the choice of two international airports:
• PISA http://www.pisa-airport.com/
• FIRENZE http://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/en/
There is no airport shuttle to Volterra. We do not offer a shuttle service.
3. BY TRAIN: HOW TO GET TO VILLA OPERA
The closest rail station is at Cecina, on the main line Genova - Pisa – Livorno – Rome. From here on, it is buses all the way. We do not offer a shuttle service.
